Loud and Proud | Our Comm Dept.

What many Communication students do not know about their department at UCSD, is that we are well-known for having had two MacArthur fellows on our board!

The MacArthur 'Genius' Award is one to be excited about, as every year there are only 40 unique individuals from all different sorts of fields are selected in granting them around half a million dollars for their current/future projects and work.

In 1990, Michael Schudson, sociologist and past professor from our department, is an original scholar from our faculty to win an MacArthur fellowship. He is the author of seven books and contributed significant studies to the history and sociology of the history of U.S. citizenship, the American news media, and political participation, and related topics.
